01

Create inventories

Export important URLs, traffic, links, templates, metadata, redirects, analytics tags, and structured data. Define what is changing: domain, protocol, platform, design, information architecture, or several at once. Fewer simultaneous changes are easier to diagnose.

02

Build explicit mappings

Map old URLs to the closest true replacements. Avoid sending everything to the homepage. Preserve useful content and internal link context. Review high-traffic and high-link-value URLs manually.

03

Validate before launch

Crawl the staging output, test redirects, canonical tags, robots rules, sitemaps, forms, analytics, and error pages. Keep staging blocked from public indexing without making the production configuration easy to copy accidentally.

  • URL map approved
  • Redirect chains removed
  • Analytics verified
  • Rollback criteria written
04

Monitor after launch

Watch availability, crawl errors, indexing, traffic segments, conversions, and server logs. Keep the old infrastructure available long enough to diagnose issues. Record the launch timestamp in every reporting system.
